The news.

I'm sorry I kept you waiting all afternoon.  I was still processing.

I am still processing.

I won't regale you with a play-by-play or tell you about what the Dreamster was wearing (though the tie was mint green and very snappy).  I'll just get right to the point.

Today I am 6w3d according to Dr. Dreamy (but my ticker is one day behind).

Today we heard a heartbeat (105 beats per minute) and saw one Piglet measuring 6w1d (perfect) in one gestational sac.

Then we saw another Piglet measuring 6w0d (also great) and heard another heartbeat, also 105 beats per minute.

I got to experience a very moving and thrilling moment in an infertile's life.

My most infertile of ground sprouted something living and breathing.

Wait.

My most infertile of ground sprouted someTHINGS living and breathing.

It is enough to make you weep with joy and disbelief.

The catch?

Because there's always a catch, right?

They are both in the same gestational sac.

They are identical twins.

Sharing one sac.

Such bittersweet news.

It's all very worrisome.  Dr. Dreamy says he has only ever seen a handful of such cases.  He's sending me to a maternal fetal specialist for an ultrasound next week. I'll call to schedule it tomorrow.

I've been researching this as much as Piglet will allow.  From what I gather, if they are Monochorionic Monoamniotic (MoMo) this is the worst case scenario because they share everything.  If they are Monochorionic Diamniotic (MoDi) that's better because they at least have their own membranes within the gestational sac.  Actually, I must give credit to my dear friend Liz who found this information for me before I could get my act together.

I would post links about MoMo vs MoDi, but honestly, this has been one emotionally taxing day and I am just spent.  But I will post more information soon.  Promise.

Thanks for all your love and support and please keep cheering on and praying for BabIES Deux.  Will keep you posted about my upcoming appointment.

I have been here. Email me or call me. I'm messaging you in FB. Cam & Hayden were originally diagnosed as mono-mono. We were misdiagnosed. It is VERY common to be misdiagnosed so early on, so I am praying praying praying that is what you will find in the future. MFM specialists are able to find so much more when it comes to these things and they found a tiny membrane that separated my girls. It was missed on their first 2 ultrasounds, but we finally found it. I tell you this to encourage you. I also have 2 dear friends who have mono-mono twins (one within a set of quads...crazy) and they are all thriving and doing wonderfullly today. I'm messaging you now. I remember this day like it was yesterday and just wish I could be there to give you a BIG HUG.

Let me begin by saying congratulations! Then let me give you a big hug for all the uncertainties ahead. Lots of unknowns can be scary for us type A people - I know. Please know that your piglets are in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember so clearly the terror I felt when we found out two of our trips are mo-di. They couldn't see the membrane at first but did eventually. Truly, this is what MFMs do and I know they will give you a ton of info! I am making a long list of resources and thoughts to send you. It WILL be okay, and we are all cheering for you. Millions of hugs coming down I-5!

Twins. Dear Lord.

Identical is rough. I have a friend who had mono/mono girls and all are healthy and well. It CAN be done. It will not be easy. None of this will be easy. But you can and will end up with healthy babies on the other end.

When is your next appointment.

Send me an email and I'll send you the email of my friend. I don't want to post it here.

Hang tight. It will be okay!

I know you must be so worried, I hope that with all the support and the good website that people have shared, it will help you get through this emotional time. I had a suspected twin pregnancy with one sac at 6 weeks, so I know the worry. But as previous comments have said - things may work out just fine and I wish they do for you!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I have been there! We found out that we were having twins and that they were mo/mo at 18 weeks. Quite a shock, but they are perfectly happy and healthy 5 year olds now! I'm friends with Christy, and she told me about your diagnosis, and I just wanted to offer some words of support!! If you EVER have any questions or just want to talk, I am always available!
Last but not least, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What a BLESSING you have been given!
Elizabeth.

I must say, I have never even heard of MoMo/MoDi twins before! More than anything, I hope your upcoming appointment puts your mind at ease. I am most impressed with all the support you obviously have... just know that all of us (even people you've never met, like me) are pulling for you and wishing for the very, very best. And last but not least... TWINS! Congratulations!
