Top of the mornin'

This morning at approximately 5:42 a.m. this was the scene at Maison Piglet:

Mr. K: (getting ready in our bathroom)

Me: (groggy, turn over to try and sleep a little longer, throw leg over comforter because am suddenly sweltering and then...) Ahhhhhhhh! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Oh-my-gawd! Owwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

Mr. K: (comes running) What?! What?! What's wrong?!!!!

Me: (thrashing around, yelling like wildebeast) Mah...mah...mah...llllllllegggggg! Crrrrraammmmmp!!! OMG! OMG! Ow! Ow! Ow!

Mr. K: Which leg? Where?! Do you need a wooden spoon to bite?!

Me: (slamming leg into comforter whilst continuing to thrash like rabid animal)

Mr. K: (pins down leg, rubs calf) Better?

Me: (after approximately 60 seconds) What the hell was that?! I think I stopped breathing momentarily.

I love, love, love Les Twinks, but boy are they wreaking havoc on my poor little body. If you have any crazy remedies for leg cramps (Katell, I remember your bar of soap in the sheets one), please for the love of Jude, pass them along!

Just added to my list of To Dos? Wooden spoon on bedside table.

Let me know how the wooden spoon works out and dear god, please post a picture of it in action...!

I had a few horrible scary cramps in my each calf - stretching definitely helped.

I hear you - some body ravaging is going on!

magnesium supplements. Check first if they're ok in pregnancy, I don't actually know that. But magnesium generally helps to reduce cramps, because cramps are caused by magnesium deficiency in the body.

Ouch! I can certainly empathize. I've been getting cramps in my calves and in the balls of my feet. They were happening at night, so I started eating a banana before bed. It's only been 2 weeks, but I haven't had a cramp since, so maybe the bananas are working. That was my remedy for non-pregnant leg cramps, so I figured it couldn't hurt to try.

Poor thing! I had about 20 with the triplets- those suckers HURT!

Eat things with potassium like bananas and potatoes. Bananas did help mine.

I've been having them too...just randomly. Haven't found a magic bullet yet. so painful.

New reader here, but felt I could relate and maybe help. I had the same with my son, except they affected the calf AND the quad and hamstring. Owwwww! Getting up right away and putting pressure on it generally helps it out, as well as keeping hydrated. Also, these types of cramps can be related to swelling, venous insufficiency which come with pregnancy. So, sometimes wearing support hose during the day can help with the charlie horses at night. Sounds wierd but it can sometimes help. Potassium as others have said as well. I'm a PA, work in vascular surg, and was surprised the venous system is hit so hard in pregnancy, but it is, and maybe it will cause a smidgen of difference! (Possibly....)

I agree woth the banana comments. I used to take a lot of fluid pills and get horrible leg cramps. My doctor suggested that I try eating a banana at bedtime and at breakfast and it really helped. It cut down dramatically on the leg cramps.

I used to have leg cramps when I was little and hopping out of bed and walking around made them go away immediately. Also, ditto on the bananas. Gobble them and keep hydrated!
