Piglet's 15 Month Update

Piglet is 15 months old!  The last month has been great.  So much fun.  We are in a groove now with our daily routine, though we've had a few no-nap or very late nap days.  I think he's transitioning from a morning nap to a late morning/early afternoon nap which keeps things interesting.

Stats: Weight - 23.8lbs, Height - 31inches, Head circumference: 50% (seems wrong since he appears to have a large noggin, but it must be all the hair), clothing size - mostly 18-24 and some 12-18, shoe size 4.5

We fill our days with playdates and trips to the park and more recently, the zoo!  He can also play independently for stretches of time which means I have more freedom to empty the dishwasher, post on Facebook (crucial) or put in a load of laundry.  It's so great to be at this stage.  More independence for everyone makes momma a happy girl.

Piglet has become SUCH a better eater.  For the first time in his life, he opens up wide for bites and lets me (little old ME!) spoon feed him.  As long as he has his own little spoon and bowl with food in it, he lets me feed him too.  Chalk one up for mommy!
He continues to be a fast learner especially in the signing department.  I can't adequately explain how great it is to be able to communicate with Piglet!

Me: Would you like more cheese? Yes?

P-Let: No. Milk. Milk. Milk.

Me: Would you like some bread? Yes?

P-Let: No. Milk. Milk. Milk.

Me: Would you like some yogurt?  Yes?

P-Let: (Pause) Yes, please!

Piglet's most favorite and frequent sign is "milk" though he's gotten SO much better at accepting no or not asking at all.  In fact, it's now been six straight days since we nursed.  MIRACULOUS.  Might have to call the Vatican kind of miraculous.  Hopefully my little getaway helped him forget how *desperately* he needed to nurse before nap and bedtime.  Bedtime last night (my first night home) was pretty drama free but things tends to get worse for him (instead of better) with each passing day.

Piglet LOVES

  • crusty French bread - not the supermarket kind, but the ARTISAN kind.  No kidding.
  • Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese.  Do not attempt to substitute as it will send him into a blind rage.
  • apple juice
  • yogurt smoothies
  • Rice Krispies
  • chicken strips with a little dash of Kosher salt
  • laughing when something is funny.  He does it of his own accord, not in response to us.  So funny!
  • sleeping on a fluffy pillow
  • his little red chair
  • stacking blocks, cups, rings, etc.
  • climbing up and scooting down stairs
  • feeding his dog contraband foods - like crusty French bread which then causes the dog to hack and cough and then puke.  Awesome.
  • Hi-5 (tv show, I know, I know.  It will cause ADD.  It is the only thing that will calm him when he wants to nurse and I say no)
  • demanding that dh and I play Rockband for his pure entertainment. Sometimes he drums along. :)
  • to bellow at you loudly
  • his cousins.  every single one of them, but especially Eva
Piglet is OVER

  • being told "no no" especially about nursing
  • being in the stroller too long, prefers the backpack
  • Cheerios
  • Cheetos
  • sitting still on my lap for more than five or ten minutes (sad tear)
  • cow's milk or soy milk - okay he was never INTO it, but the record should show that he's still not a fan after two months of gentle prodding
  • restaurants
  • certain lullabies
  • the Gymboree parachute
  • baby swings at the park

Piglet is 11 months old!

Piglet is just one short month (we all know how fast December goes) away from his first birthday. I can't stand it. No really.  I can't.  Sigh...at least I get to plan a party for the little Shrieker.  Oh and let's not forget his first Christmas will come between now and then too.  Okay, maybe I CAN stand it.  A little.  But just a little.

Stats:
Weight 22.8lbs - his weight gain is tapering off because he's gotten so active with all the crawling and cruising!  I hope my chubby baby sticks around awhile longer though.  Who doesn't love a fat baby?!

Height: 30.5 inches.

Clothing sizes: 12-18 and 18-24, shoe size 4

Party tricks: blowing kisses - complete with "mwah!" sound effects, responding to the word "surprise!" by putting his hands on either side of his face (this is hiiiiiilaaaaariiiious), the oldies but goodies - lotion, no-no, waving hi and bye, clapping, something newer - throwing his head back and getting his lower lip to tremble when he gets "in trouble" but then recovering in a matter of seconds, saying da-da with perfect clarity, signing dog, fan, all done and more, shuddering when very excited (!), pointing at things and in directions with his pointer finger.

Nicknames: Piglet, Shrieker, Reidy, Reidy Roo, Panda, Special, Terrible Little Child (this is usually used during meal times when he bats the spoon away!), Baba Roo, Munchkin, Monkey, Monks.

Piglet LOVES
  • his activity table complete with annoying caterpillar voice
  • the humidifier
  • taking paintings (but only original art, no kidding!) off the walls
  • "blowing" the lights off and on - it's a Music Together thing
  • Music Together
  • Gymbo the clown at Gymboree
  • the parachute at Gymboree
  • playdates at our house
  • dancing around the house with mom to Pink Martini, he's also partial to waltzes
  • Eva, Kate, Avery and Gracen
  • Christmas music
  • empty boxes
  • Blues Clues (tv! gasp!)
  • pounding the ivories
  • watching daddy juggle
  • biting you or your clothes
  • chasing the dog
  • Ritz crackers
  • climbing stairs
  • pop-up books
  • falling asleep in the car
  • an audience and applause - the louder the better

Piglet is OVER
  • eating anything green
  • the jumperoo
  • getting his face washed
  • laying down for diaper changes
  • the Nuby sippy...on to a big boy sippy
  • Dr. Seuss - for now
  • Gerber wagon wheels
  • Baby Einstein
  • car rides after 6:00 p.m.
  • sitting quietly at restaurants
  • crowded spaces - I think he's a bit claustrophobic
  • crawling through tunnels

Eight Month Update

Piglet is a few days shy of being exactly eight months but I thought I'd write this post while I have a few minutes to myself.  Piglet is getting so big and his funny personality is more apparent than ever.  He has his two lower "bunny" teeth but I can't ever seem to catch them on camera.  I'll keep trying.  His hair is getting thicker but remains smooth and shiny as ever.  The debate at our house regarding where he got his "good hair" continues.  :)  He hasn't started crawling yet, but does push himself up on his hands and can get to anything he's set his sights on.

There are too many changes and milestones to list, but enjoy the few that I cherry-picked for the update below!

Piglet LOVES

  • petting his dog
  • any and all beverages, but especially yours

  • laughing his tinkly laugh

  • rubbing his hands together like he's putting on lotion
  • his stuffed monkey named Howard
  • strawberry ice cream (bad mommy)
  • when you say "ah-choo!"
  • being around (and batting at) other babies
  • checking himself out in the mirror
  • chewing on his feet
  • Dr. Snyder, his pediatrician

Piglet is OVER

  • getting out of the bathtub
  • anyone who is not mommy after 7 p.m. (yes, still)
  • taking one long morning nap
  • car rides longer than 40 minutes
  • apples
  • getting his finger and toenails cut
  • diaper changes when he first wakes up
  • going to bed later than 7:30 p.m.
  • "parachute time" at Gymboree class
  • any stuffed animal other than his monkey named Howard
  • mommy changing his clothes three times a day because of the weather shifting (cold in the a.m., hot in the p.m., cold again in the evening)
  • seeing something he wants and getting denied access by you
  • strolling indoors (e.g. the mall...mommy finds this very alarming)
