My friends ROCK

My favorite mom of twins and my best friend of 20 years, collaborated to throw me a shower. Now you all know I'm a fairly, hm...how can I put this in a way that doesn't make me sound like a perfectionist wench delicately, "particular" person but when it comes to other people making a fuss over me, I tend to say "just throw a bag of Doritos in a bowl and call it good." I love love love to throw parties and special events to honor people, I'm just not that good at putting the shoe on the other foot. It feels awkward, uncomfortable and a stresses me out a tiny bit. Those of you that know me IRL may be surprised by this admonition, but it's true peeps. MVK is not great at being fĂȘted. (But please do note my mad 'circumflex' skills!)

However, I know my best friend and after forcing her to let me throw her a tiny little 'Sprinkle' last summer (just days after I found out I was pregnant but didn't yet know about Les Twinks) I knew my number was up.

I told them I didn't need anything, no gifts, nothing elaborate, I even begged my best friend not to mail out paper invites and just to do an Evite instead. When they asked me what my ideal shower would be, I said "to watch a chick flick and eat dessert!" They honored my wishes so beautifully but did cheat and put together a darling gift basket for me. How could I reprimand such utter cuteness?! And one of the best components of the basket? A lovely ribbon-tied scroll that contained a MONTH'S worth of dates and names of people who are going to bring us dinner after Les Twinks arrive. And they are all people that I like! Who I would not care if they came over and I was in yoga pants with a baby stuck to my b.oob! They thought of everything!

Upon arrival, I mentioned that I was hungry and my FMOT (favorite mom of twins) offered me a plate of lasagna and made me sit down before I could blink. Then she spread out all my favorite sappy chick flicks Oscar worthy movies and said "pick one!" Perfection does not begin to describe the scene.

We played one and only one non-cheesy game (that I totally rocked) involving pairing celebrity parents with their twin celebrity spawn. Let me tell you, my $79.99 annual subscription to US Weekly totally paid dividends! And because I'm supremely humble, I assure you I didn't say loudly "I TOTALLY KNOW THIS ONE! AND I CAN NAME THE DAD TOO, SUCKERS!" after each and every question. No siree, I sat there and calmly and quietly contemplated each answer in manner befitting a lady.

After I kicked total and complete ass the game was over, we popped in The Devil Wears Prada and ate copious amounts of popcorn, carmel corn and three different desserts. And you all know how I love me some dessert! It was a great evening and I loved celebrating with my sweet friends (and none of the sour ones)!

Thank you Liane (FMOT) and Jess (bestie) (and Shelly for coordinating the amazing meal calendar).

You make it abundantly true for me to say MY FRIENDS ROCK. XOXOXOXOXO

**POST EDIT**

Not sure why all my thought bubbles and captions are showing up so small and blurry, but it was my second attempt (the first resulted in GIANT pictures that only partially showed up) so I am throwing in the towel. Just *imagine* how witty they were if you could read them. :)

My trio accessorized

So you know how we all have friends, you know those friends who are ridiculously creative and can make stuff with their BARE HANDS?  And I don't mean lowly home cooks like me who make cupcakes from scratch and run three victory laps in celebration.  I mean people who can make a LIVING from the things they create with their BARE HANDS.  And it's some cool stuff people.

My friend, the maven over at Create Beauty Daily is one of those people.  She was inspired to start her business after her MIL sent her a pretty necklace for her birthday. Said MIL had bought it at a craft fair or something and accidentally left the price tag on. Miss Maven was all "She paid WHAT?  I could totally make this."

And so she did.

And Create Beauty Daily was born.

Pretty nifty, eh?

What's even niftier is that she customizes things based on whim of the client.

So when she posted a photo of a necklace with two connected rings, I commented and asked if she could make it with THREE connected rings instead.

Because I am all about TROIS as you well know.

Lo and behold, a few days later, she posts THIS on Facebook.

A necklace named just for MOI!  MVK and my trio are now immortalized in sterling silver.

Now tell me you aren't a teeny tiny bit envious?

Psssh.  You *know* you are!

And being the clever, creative and also funny person she is, she priced it at $33 USD.

Clever, I tell you, so very clever.

Maybe, just maybe if you go to her website (which links to her Etsy store) and ask a question or make an awesome suggestion, she might name something after you too.

Maybe.

But don't hold your breath.

Because she is so very creative she might just want to name it herself.

Did I mention she makes things with her BARE HANDS?

*P.S. Dear FCC, No products were given or exchanged for this freaking awesome endorsement.

To lurk is to love

I just wanted to send a shout-out to my lurkers friends who read my blog and have been so supportive of this entirely stressful, emotional, amazing, miraculous process. Thank you for (silently) cheering me on and for your direct messages on Facebook and Twitter.  Even though you don't publicly comment, I know you are there and that means so much to me.  Thank you.

And to the more vocal peeps, every comment, every LOL, every little word means more than you can possibly know. The thrill of publishing your comments doesn't wear off! I am so grateful to you.

And last but not least, thank you especially to my local friends who have offered to come play with Piglet, bring me food or keep me company during my upcoming bedrest, friends who have checked in on me, called or emailed asking how my appointment went or how I am holding up or simply to say "I'm thinking of you!"  What would I do without you?  From the bottom of my (pharmaceutically stimulated) heart, thank you so so very much.  I cannot say it enough.

You are are all miracles in my life.

And here's to a week of more miracles to come.

xoxo,
Miss MVK

You people make us smile.

Thank you so much for all your words of support and kind, generous words about Piglet.  You all (especially my lurker friends who were moved/upset enough to comment!!!  Thank you!!!) you made me feel so much better.

Psssssssssht!  Oh WHAT?!   WHAT WAS THAT?!  I'll tell you what. That was the sound of our collective cans of whoop a$$ all opening in unison and raining down on Public Frenemy #1!  You guys are awesome.  I am so fortunate to have such supportive IRL and URL friends who are in my corner and love my Piglet.

Because of you, I have re-thought what I had considered to be a powerless situation.  I now see that I have all the power - the power to extricate ourselves (myself and Piglet) from interactions with this person, the power to speak up the next time an insult is hurled in our direction

the

power

to

simply

walk

away.

And MAN, it feels so good to have had this simple yet intense revelation.  Thank you again peeps.  You are amazing and wonderful and I see rainbows and bunnies whenever I think about how great you all are.

PS - I also decided that I needed to stop thinking so much about this negative person and start focusing on the business of womb preparation.  T-minus two days until my first shot!
